Scandinavia’s film industry is at the top of its game, and the region’s best actors and filmmakers are making their mark in Hollywood.
Norway has been churning out talented actors, directors and fantastic films for decades, but the stakes have never been higher than in recent years. The success of “Kon-Tiki” is a prime example. In 2012, the film broke box office records in Norway, and the buzz caught the attention of Hollywood critics, as it received Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations. The film’s success catapulted Norwegian directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg into Hollywood circles. The duo is now directing another high seas adventure—Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” starring Johnny Depp.
